Upcoming townhall meeting addresses hurricanes

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30. Since the Atlantic Hurricane Season officially opens June 1, Team Eglin members should gear up now for what is expected to be an above average hurricane season, according to a recent advisory issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Hurricane Center. EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --

Are you ready?

Hurricane season is underway and 96th Test Wing’s Readiness and Emergency Management wants to make sure the base populous and community are up to date and prepared for any potential storms.

To do so, the base’s EM flight will provide a briefing to answer any questions about how the base prepares and executes its hurricane protocols.

“The Hurricane Preparedness Briefings provide key preparation and lifesaving actions for Airmen, family and the entire community,” said Master Sgt. Hypatia Brand, 96th Civil Engineer Squadron.  “True preparedness done prior to a storm can lessen the amount of stress and anxiety most people will face during a hurricane.  If you prepare for a hurricane, you will be prepared for most emergencies.”

The briefing is open for all Team Eglin personnel and dependents.  There will be speakers from weather, finance, legal, civilian personnel, airman and family readiness, medical, and emergency management.  Topics include 2018 weather outlook, hurricane history, hazards, preparedness actions, evacuation and claims/reimbursements.

The briefing is June 21 at 10 a.m., at the enlisted heritage hall.
