Families reuniting after deployments now have a new tool to help their transition.

The 96th Air Base Wing Chapel recently completed a 32-minute video that provides the same reunion and integration information presented to returning personnel at the Eglin Readiness Center. This new video has been edited into a family friendly format and is being made available to all of Team Eglin.

The video airs on Channel 23 on base starting Nov. 29 at 8 a.m. and again at 8 p.m. The video will also be distributed to all squadrons for their use.

According to Chaplain (Capt.) Robert Sugg; the chapel's ERC reunion & reintegration program has been, basically, simple inprocessing.

"The chapel took the opportunity to expand what was already being provided and integrate marriage and relationship training focusing on the dynamics of long deployments," he said.

According to Chaplain (Col.) Richard Elliott, the video falls under the Marriage and Families' Ministry which the chapel established "simply to try and relieve the stress on our families."

The video is based on a highly successful "Dining with Friends" initiative that the chapel hosted last July for four nights. Those evenings were spent providing helpful tips to spouses on what to expect when their loved one returned.

"It was very well received," Chaplain Sugg said. "It gave the spouses a chance to learn the dynamics, not just the consequences, of long-term deployments."

Chaplain Sugg said it is important that the families know what to expect when their spouses return.

"We tell the returning Airmen what they will experience to alleviate their fears but there's been no way of informing their families. This is a way of helping the families determine what's normal, what's not, and when to get help."
