Emery Shoemaker, a civilian assigned to the 46th Test Wing's Operations Support Squadron, was killed in a motorcycle accident Oct. 21. Mr. Shoemaker was returning home from Pensacola when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle that turned into his path.

Mr. Shoemaker entered civil service in May 2006. While assigned to the 46th OSS, he was an invaluable member of the Airfield Systems Maintenance Flight. He was responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and emergency restoration of air traffic control and landing systems (ATCALS) supporting DoD's most complex airspace environment.

Mr. Shoemaker served his country for 20 years as an Air Traffic Control Radar Technician. His last duty assigned was Langley AFB, Va., where he served as a Special Maintenance Team (SMT) technician. As a SMT technician, he provided maintenance assistance throughout Air Combat Command's theater of operations. He was a key member of the multi-operational test and evaluation (MOT&E) team for the state-of-the art DASR. He identified system design deficiencies, that if not corrected prior to deployment would have severely impacted DoT and DoD operational capabilities.

A viewing for Mr. Shoemaker will be held Thursday evening, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Fla. Everyone is invited to stop by to pay your respects to Mr. Shoemaker's family. The funeral service for Mr. Shoemaker will be held Friday evening, Oct. 26 6 p.m. at the Saint Sylvester Catholic Church, 6464 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze. Everyone is invited to come out to honor and remember a co-worker and friend.
