The Breeze to close for renovations Published Oct. 10, 2014 By Lois Walsh Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Breeze Dining Facility will close Nov. 1, for several months to complete the final phase of renovations. The facility closed in 2013 for renovations, which were part of an Air Force-wide Food Transformation Initiative. Now, funding is available to finish the job. "We were fortunate in that leadership recognized the importance the FTI program played in enhancing the quality of life for Team Eglin and funded 100 percent of the projects we'd asked for earlier," said Food Service officer Aubrey Harvey. The final renovations include new flooring throughout the facility, new tables, chairs and booths in the seating areas, state-of-the-art refrigeration equipment , and a carousel tray system where the customers slide their trays in a rack. Impacted dorm residents will see a change to their paycheck in November when a basic allowance for substance, or BAS, is added to their pay. That money will allow Airmen to choose to eat wherever they want and whatever they want, until the dining facility is back on line, and their meal card entitlement is restored. Once the renovations are completed, Harvey expects a greater atmosphere for customers to dine, relax and fellowship. "It will be a much more pleasurable environment all around," Harvey said. "For instance the accumulator eliminates the need for pre-positioned bussing carts, which were a nuisance when holding a meeting or just watching TV here in the facility. The new flooring will be an epoxy surface that is easier to clean, and the non-skid surface will be safer." "We appreciate everyone's patience and we're excited that once these renovations are completed, we will have a world-class dining facility for our patrons," said Lt. Col. Rob Roeckers, 96th Force Support Squadron commander. The Breeze renovations are projected for completion no later than March 2015.
