EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, a time when everyone is encouraged to appreciate the numerous benefits of physical fitness and to make an effort to be active each day.

Physical fitness is not just about looking good or achieving athletic excellence.  It is about maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle that allows us to function at our best.  Regular physical activity can help reduce the risk of various health conditions like heart disease, diabetes and obesity.  It can also improve mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

During this month, all DoD members are challenged to explore new forms of exercise. Whether it is yoga, cycling, swimming, or even a simple walk in the park, the key is to find an activity one enjoys.

The end goal is to make physical activity a fun and regular part of daily life.  The journey to physical fitness is one best shared with others.  Members are encouraged to engage their families, significant others, or friends in exercise and physical activities.  This will not only make the experience more enjoyable, but also create a supportive environment that encourages continued participation and commitment.

The Civilian Health Promotion Services program offers valuable tools and resources to aid individuals in their fitness journey.  One such tool is the Health Risk Assessment, available on the Civilian Wellness web portal.  The HRA provides a comprehensive snapshot of one’s overall health.  By understanding our baseline health, we can identify potential risks and take proactive steps to address them.  The portal also offers interactive learning sessions and an extensive health library for additional knowledge.  It provides workout recommendations tailored to individual needs and goals.  Furthermore, the portal can be paired with wearable fitness devices, enabling seamless tracking and management of health data.

In the spirit of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, we encourage members to utilize the resources provided by the CHPS Program. Together, let us celebrate this month by focusing on health, engaging in physical activities, exploring new forms of exercise, and using the tools and resources available to us to enhance our wellness journey.
