Staff Sgt. Shannon Byers, 46th Weather Squadron forecaster, monitors current weather conditions and forecasts surface winds on a daily basis at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The 46th WS is gearing up for an "above average" hurricane season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Hurricane Center is predicting the Atlantic hurricane season to have a 75 percent chance of being "above average." With an average of 10 storms per year, the NHC forecasters predict 13 to 17 named storms. Hurricane season officially began June 1 and lasts through Nov. 30. (Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
