Going solar
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A crew from Standard Renewable Energy lays out a grid for solar panels on top of the 46th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron's Hangar 102. Once fully operational, the 10 panels are expected to generate 50 percent of the hangar's power and save nearly 70,000 killowatts of electricity over the panels' 30-year lifespan. The AMXS effort is part of the Department of Defense's goals to reduce energy consumption 20 percent by 2015. (USAF photo/Airman Christopher Jacobs)
