BALAD AIR BASE, Iraq -- Staff Sgt. Derrick Seals, 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron barrier system maintainer, pulls a tape connector through a tire here, Feb. 9. The tire protects the connector from wearing down over time because of friction. The emergency barrier system gives the Air Force the ability to launch aircraft and recover them anywhere in the world. Sergeant Seals is deployed from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
