Team Eglin recognized for crash response
Brig. Gen. Barry D. Keeling, director of the Joint Staff for the Louisiana National Guard, recognizes Col. Monte Cannon, 96th Test Wing vice commander, with the Meritorious Service Medal for his role as the incident commander during the aftermath of a March 10 UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter training accident that killed seven Marines and four Army National Guardsmen. The service members were participating in a routine night-time training exercise when the Black Hawk carrying them crashed into the Santa Rosa Sound in Navarre, Fla. Keeling also recognized service members from Eglin AFB, the Army’s 7th Special Forces Group, and 6th Ranger Training Battalion for their support of rescue and recovery efforts following the crash.
