Tortoise release
A gopher tortoise moves toward a volunteer-created starter burrow June 3 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. A group of 17 volunteers dug starter burrows to encourage the 22 new gopher tortoises to settle into their new habitat within the relocation pens on Eglin’s range. Eglin is the primary recipient site for gopher tortoise relocations across Florida. (U.S. Air Force photo/Ilka Cole)
