EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 96th Test Wing and 33rd Fighter Wing leadership handed out some early stripes to 10 deserving Airmen this month.
The stripes earned were part of the quarterly Senior Airman Below the Zone promotion incentive for worthy airmen 1st class.
The early promotion opportunity highlights elite Airmen who stand out from their peers and perform duties at a level above their current rank. The promotion comes six months ahead of the Airman’s standard promotion schedule.
“This selection is a testament to their hard work and dedication in support of Team Eglin's vital mission areas,” said Brig. Gen. Evan Dertien, 96th Test Wing commander. “Congratulations to all.”
Many times, unit leadership finds various creative ways of springing the good news of the unsuspecting Airmen.
For Airman 1st Class Maggie Malcom, 96th Aerospace Medical Squadron, her commander called on her to give a very-impromptu safety briefing to her entire flight prior to the July 4 holiday. Before she could compose a thought or say anything, he informed her she’d been promoted.
She credits that same flight she briefed on safety with helping her earn this achievement.
“From day one, my entire flight supported me. They did mock boards and asked me questions,” said the 28-year-old Virginia native. “It really hasn’t sunk in yet, it’s so exciting. I’m ready to test for staff sergeant and further my career.”
