Hiring event expedites employment Published Aug. 29, 2019 By Kevin Gaddie Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE Fla. -- More than 200 job seekers attended a research, development, test and engineering field hiring event at the University of Florida Research Engineering and Education Facility Aug. 27-28, The event was held to fill 57 positions here. “We’re leaning forward to utilize AFMC’s expedited hiring initiative to fill those hard-to-fill positions across the installation,” said Juan Robinson, 96th Force Support Squadron, the event coordinator. Among the available positions in the field were electrical, electronic, general, aerospace and engineering, Robinson said. Systems development and operations research analysts were also sought. Among the qualities the hiring managers looked for were a strong educational background, a high college grade point average and recent experience, Robinson said. Robinson said one goal was to offer an ‘intent to hire’ letter to as many candidates as possible in the pre-employment processes. Provided that candidates passed pre-requisites like a resume review, college transcripts and a preliminary security clearance screening, they were hired for the position they were offered. Robinson said resumes were also accepted for jobs outside of the RDTE fields, for future consideration when other positions become available. Ed Barard, 96th Range Group, interviewed several applicants for range positons and hired two on the spot. “This was a great event,” he said. “It allowed us to interview people and make a decision the same day, which is a great benefit to our workforce.” The event was advertised on social media platforms LinkedIn and Facebook, local newspapers and a local career source bulletin. Future events will also be advertised on these platforms. For more information on future hiring events, call 882-6258.
