EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Brig. Gen. Scott Cain, the 96th Test Wing commander, directs Health Protection Condition Charlie effective today to combat the increasing spread of COVID-19 across our local communities.
The increased health protection level is aimed at the continued COVID-19 prevention efforts to protect Team Eglin’s people, resources and to preserve mission capability.
Eglin went to HPCON Charlie at the beginning of the pandemic March 25, but lightened the HPCON October 8 to Bravo.
All members of Team Eglin are encouraged to consult with their commander, director or supervisor for specific mission-essential clarification.
All Eglin AFB personnel will continue to exercise diligence in personal hygiene and public health risk mitigation measures. These measures include:
- Strict hygiene
- Regular cleaning of workplace common areas.
- Strict adherence to physical distancing (maintaining 6-feet of separation between people), to include during organized physical fitness activities outdoors and when eating or drinking.
- Mask-wear in all Eglin buildings when 6-feet of separation cannot be maintained, a properly fitting cloth mask will be worn over the nose and mouth when physical distancing cannot be maintained for any period of time. (The CDC recommends the use of a non-valved, multi-layer cloth mask.)
When riding in government vehicles with co-workers – all occupants must wear a mask at all times.
Everyone two years of age and older will wear a mask in Medical Group, Mission Support Group, AAFES, and Commissary buildings.
- Gatherings and official events are limited to ten individuals.
On base religious services may continue using previously approved mitigation measures up to 50.
Meetings and other events should be conducted virtually to the maximum extent possible.
At the same time, the increased health protection levels will impact many of the facilities and functions on base. Personnel and residents should expect our on-base facilities to decrease activities or reduce hours of operation as conditions warrant.
Installation emergency services will continue to operate. The 96th Medical Group’s Eglin hospital will be available for acute, emergency and inpatient services.
“The safety and well-being of Eglin Air Force Base and all of our families is my top priority,” said Cain. “I will continue to ensure our personnel have the most up-to-date information on measures we’re taking to prevent spread of the virus.”
