Ground mishap at Navy EOD school

Wreaths are placed by the list of names of fallen explosive ordnance disposal technicians from each service at the 47th Annual EOD Memorial Service at the Kauffman EOD Training Complex at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., May 7. Names of recent fallen and past EOD technicians are added to the memorial wall each year.  The Army, Marines and Navy added six new names this year. The all-service total now stands at 320. Today at approximately 9:45 a.m. an explosion occurred at the Navy School Explosive Ordnance Disposal range.

Eglin and Okaloosa County emergency crews responded to the incident. An individual was airlifted to a medical facility with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mishap is underway. More information will be released as it becomes available.
