EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - The 96th Medical Group goes live with the Defense Health Agency's new health record system here Sept. 24.

MHS Genesis is DOD’s electronic health record for the military health system. The new system includes a patient portal that provides patients access to their records at any time and includes a new secure messaging system.

  • Through the new patient portal, patients can:
  • Exchange secure messages with care teams
  • Request prescription renewals
  • Schedule medical appointments and active-duty dental appointments
  • Access information related to health concerns and medications

During the next 90 days, appointment availability may be affected, and appointment wait times may increase as medics and healthcare providers adjust to the new technologies and workflows. Patients can also expect increased wait time for laboratory orders and prescriptions.

Options for healthcare needs:

  • Nurse advice line: Call 800-874-2273 or visit mhsnurseadviceline.com
  • Telemedicine: Available at humanamilitary.com/telemedicine. Referrals are not required for dependents and retirees. There may be a copayment. Active-duty members will need a referral from their primary care manager or the NAL.
  • Urgent care centers: Referrals are not required for dependents and retirees. Active-duty members will need a referral from their PCM or the NAL.
  • Emergency rooms: Eglin's ER should be limited to true medical emergencies and life-threatening situations.

To make the transition easier:

  • Create a DOD self-service logon to access the patient portal: https://my.mhsgenesis.health.mil
  • Prepare for longer appointments after Sept. 24 as patient information transitions.
  • To accurately update medications, patients are encouraged to bring all original bottles of current medications, including any over-the-counter medications or supplements. Patients may bring a comprehensive list of all medicines.
  • Plan ahead. If in need of medication, the appointment line can be reached at 850-883-8600. Please note renewal requests may be delayed after Sept. 24.

"Thank you for trusting us with your healthcare," said Gregory Coleman, 96th MDG commander.
