Airmen from the 96th Air Base Wing rallied for a morning filled with a run interspersed with unique activities to test the teamwork spirit during a fitness event June 18. The fitness event was hosted by the 96th Medical Group and boasted activities that were uniquely medical in theme.

"These events are important because we all need to do the best we can to stay fit," said Maj. Rebecca Carter, 96th Aerospace Medical Squadron. "We need to maintain our highest level of fitness and readiness capabilities so that we can perform our main duties."

The 3-mile run was broken up with four stations with regular fitness exercises and also challenge exercises such as litter crawls, Self-Aid Buddy Care, a bedpan fill and a race to don personal protective equipment.

"The run really wasn't my favorite part but stopping at the different places broke it up a bit," said one Airman. "Seeing the dress up in scrubs was really funny."
Fitness events are integral to the acceptance and success of the new physical training standards the Air Force is setting into motion July1. The event ensured Airmen work together in team building exercises and a group run that emphasizes the Wingman concept.

"Fitness events are necessary because you're with your group and they're your support," said Tech. Sgt. Larue Holliday, 96th Air Base Wing Knowledge Operation Management section. "You have a Wingman who is going to push you to be your best. It's all about working as a team versus being alone and trying to carry yourself through. Fitness events encompass team, flight, squadron, group and wing cohesiveness."
