Eglin recognized with national community partnership award Published June 25, 2015 By Jasmine Porterfield Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 96th Test Wing was presented with the 2015 Installation Excellence Award at a June 24 Defense Community Awards ceremony hosted by the Association of Defense Communities in Washington, D.C. "It's an honor for Eglin to be recognized for this significant achievement," said Maj. Gen. David Harris, Air Force Test Center commander. The recognition is awarded to military installations that have successfully built strong partnerships with communities, regions and states to enhance community-military collaboration; promote efficiency and innovation; advance Department of Defense energy efficiency goals; and serve as a national model for community-military partnerships, according to the ADC. The 96th Test Wing was recognized for the seamless collaboration of Eglin's joint-use airfield with a civilian airport; its partnership with county and state organizations on land preservation to protect aircraft test and training corridors; and reducing the demand on Florida's main potable water supply through an Eglin-based supplemental reclaimed water main that also provides additional reclaimed water to Eglin and a neighboring city. "This award is a 'team win' and an exclamation point on the outstanding contributions and endless awards bestowed upon the dedicated Airmen throughout the 96th Test Wing," said Harris. The wing was nominated by the Economic Development Council of Okaloosa County, a local organization dedicated to the continual growth and diversification of the county's economic development.
