Eglin offers fun for all

(This is part 2 of a 3-part series that will highlight places newcomers can get information about some of the many activities to participate in around the Eglin area. From days at the beach to great on-base activities, this information aims to help people just getting to the base.)

If you are new to the area, Eglin offers opportunities whether you live on base or off.

The new 96th Force Support Squadron offers on base activities across a spectrum of categories.

With the beautiful weather at Eglin, Outdoor Recreation is a popular destinations for Team Eglin members and vacationers alike. Located on the waters of Weekly and Boggy Bayou, Outdoor Recreation offers boats and jet skis, boat slips, sports equipment, camping grounds, and varied other services. They also offer kayaking and canoeing trips, swimming lessons, and scenic tours. Outdoor Recreation also maintains the Family Camp and RV park, great places to get away from the daily grind with family or friends.

Other outdoor activities on Eglin include the ever-popular golf. Eglin Golf Course offers 36 holes of championship golf, is open year-round, ranked first in AFMC, and third in US military courses. The course is located only four miles east of Eglin's East Gate in Niceville.

If you are not an outdoor adventurer, Eglin's clubs and Arts & Crafts Center offer events and classes for you. The Enlisted Club offers pay-per-view UFC fights, themed lunch buffets, and salsa classes. The Officers Club features a Sunday brunch and can be used for wedding receptions. Team Eglin members can also use the clubs for their catering services.

The Arts & Crafts Center offers classes including piano, guitar, jewelry design, watercolor, ballroom dancing, belly dancing, and more. They also have ceramics, wood, crafts, and graphics equipment for patrons to use. The center also runs the auto shop where members can do minor car repair and get repair quotes from the in-house mechanics.

In addition to these activities, the Force Support Squadron also accepts suggestions for new programs and activities.
