Aero Club plane crashes at Eglin Published June 23, 2011 By 050211 EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Col. (ret.) David A. Miles, Shalimar, Fla., and Thomas E. Lewis, Apalachicola, FLa., were killed today in an Aero Club Beech aircraft accident. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the aircraft crashed into a grassy area next to the 46th Test Wing side of the runway here. A civilian pilot and civilian passenger, also a pilot, were killed in the accident. "Dave Miles was an experienced pilot with thousands of hours in various aircraft. Flying was his passion. His family is devastated by his loss," said Colonel Miles son-in-law, Richard Johnson. The crash will be investigated by a board of qualified officers from the Air Force as well as the NTSB.
