HWY 285 TO CLOSE FOR AIRCRAFT RELOCATION Published Sept. 3, 2010 By 621000 EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Motorists should prepare for possible delays Saturday as base personnel relocate aircraft by truck across Highway 285. Both lanes of an approximately six to eight mile portion of the highway can be closed between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as the aircraft cross the road. Two F-15s and one F-4 are being relocated to make room for a range mission. To get from one site to the other, they will need to be towed across Highway 285 which will take up to 30 minutes. Because the drive across the range is slow and they are maneuvering a large wingspan between trees it is undetermined when the trucks will get to that crossing. As a precautionary measure for vehicular traffic, Eglin officials are closing Highway 285 at 10 a.m. and it will remain closed whenever the three aircraft have completely crossed the highway. This could last up until 1 p.m. For further information about road closures go to http://www.eglin.af.mil/units/pa/mediacenter/index.asp.
