Ranger Camp invites public to Ranger Run Published March 24, 2008 By 032408 Eglin AFB, Fla. -- The 6th Ranger Training Battalion will be hosting the Second Annual 5k/10k race prior to the Ranger Camp's annual Open House event on May 10. The Swamp Ranger Run is sponsored by the Swamp Ranger Association and the Northwest Florida Track Club. It is held on an annual basis in conjunction with 6th Ranger Training Battalions Annual Open House. The run is held at Camp James E. Rudder (Ranger Camp) near Auxiliary Field 6 on the Eglin Air Force Base military reservation. The Camp is surrounded by miles of some of the most scenic and challenging trails in Northwest Florida. Registration for the race will begin at 6:15 a.m. and both races will start at 7:45 a.m. The races will be immediately followed by an awards ceremony at 9:00 a.m. Breakfast foods will be free to all racers; concessions will be available for all bystanders. Registration fees will be $20 until May 7 (online), and May 1 (mail-in). In order to encourage online registration the $3.00 fee that is normally charged by active.com will be waived. Race day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on May 10 and will be $25. Mail in registrations forms are available on our website, www.swamprangers.com, and must be postmarked by May 1 with a $20 fee enclosed. All proceeds from the Swamp Ranger Run will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation. The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. The Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. Eglin AFB is receiving a Fisher House, and the Rangers want to do their part to support that great program. Private donations to support the Fisher House can contact CPT Mike Erlandson, 850-882-1167, for more information. Those interested can find more information as well as pre-registration information at www.swamprangers.com and click on the "Ranger Run" tab or call Captain Mike Erlandson at 850-882-1167.
