If the weather permits, Eglin wildland fire managers will conduct a prescribed burn on 500 acres of Hurlburt Field land Sunday.
Eglin wildland fire managers plan to start the fire at 8 a.m. and stay on site to control the fire until 11 a.m.
Smoke will be visible from Highway 98 for at least three hours after the fire starts, but southern winds should blow the plume to the northwest, Paul White, Eglin assistant fire management officer, said.
Each year, Eglin wildland fire managers set a goal of burning a minimum of 70,000 acres to maintain the health of the Eglin ecosystem. More than halfway through their current prescribed burning season, Eglin wildland fire managers have burned approximately 40,000 acres.
