9/7/2012 - EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Base housing residents are about to get a little pampering in the form of remodeled kitchens and bathrooms.

"We're renovating 435 kitchens in Capehart Housing area and 145 bathrooms in Poquito Housing," said Kathy Lawhon, Eglin's housing manager.  "All of the kitchens and bathrooms will get new cabinets, countertops, sinks, fresh paint, tile flooring and ceiling touch-ups."

The work is scheduled to take less than five days, but most should be completed in four days, depending on if the contractors run into any problems, she said.

Residents must have one family member over the age of 18 present during the entire time the contractors are in the units. The workers are expected to begin at approximately 7 a.m. daily and work until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"All the contractors will have gone through a rigorous security check prior to being granted access to the base," said Dan Robeen, 96th Civil Engineer Group programs chief.  "Residents must remove all items from their cabinets prior to the contractors arriving and ensure the rooms are free of furniture and other personal items."

The contractors will leave the refrigerators on during the renovations, so there should be no impact to those items, however the water lines will be disconnected and the ice makers turned off. Stoves will be operational and accessible only after the workers have finished for the day.

The 96th Civil Engineer Group will host townhall meetings  to answer concerns or questions from base housing residents at Eglin's Enlisted Heritage Hall Sept. 10 at 5 p.m., and again Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m.
